Esalen Massage

Developed in the 1960s at Esalen Institute on the California Coast, this approach melded classic Swedish massage with sensory awareness practice and slow, flowing t’ai chi. The practitioner works with the receiver, rather than on the client. Today the Esalen massage signature flow is punctuated with deep tissue detail, joint mobilizing, stretches, and energy work. Tension melts away and yields to a state of harmony.

Patrice Hamilton

I trained in Esalen Massage in the late 1990’s and provide a nurturing, relaxing and integrative massage experience. Utilizing the long, slow, t’ai chi-like strokes typical of Esalen Massage, the client is assisted in letting go and dropping into a calmer place within. As the mind quiets, the body softens. As the tissues release, balance can be restored.

In addition, I am trained in Cranial Sacral Therapy and have extensive training and experience as a practitioner of Cortical Field Re-education. CFR is a body awareness and movement practice that works through the central nervous system to repattern how and when muscles fire. This work informs my work with my massage clients.
