Adam Lacey

Adam started doing massage professionally after attending the Baltimore School of Massage in 1991. Two years later he decided to focus on Asian bodywork and attended the Baltimore School of Shiatsu, which led to a journey through South East Asia in the winter of 1995 to study Thai Massage. He attended the basic through advanced massage training at the main Buddhist temple, Wat Po, in Bangkok and completed another course at the Old Medicine Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Adam began a 3-year sabbatical from massage in 1998 to teach English as a second language and explore Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. He joined the Well Within family in 2001 and has been on the Well Bodycare team for over 7 years. Since 2011 he has been training at Esalen in the Deep Bodywork modality created by Perry and Johanna Holloman. And in 2013 he began an intensive training in KMI, a Structural Integration approach based on Ida Rolf’s method and teaching.

Adam is a Well Within Spa Bodycare practitioner and his specialties are Deep Tissue, Thai Massage and Shiatsu.

I truly believe in the work that I do and I put my heart and soul into every massage. My passion comes through in my touch. I have a very compassionate and intuitive touch that allows me to feel patterns of tension in the body, often finding tight spots my clients didn’t realize were there. I use intuition, breathwork and mindfulness techniques, to increase my clients’ awareness and assist the body in its natural ability to heal and relax. The work I do is rooted in my belief that the body already knows how to heal itself, all I do is facilitate that process.

My love for massage began very early in life. I come from a family of massage therapists and grew up giving and receiving massage and understanding its therapeutic benefits. I decided to turn my interest in massage into a career. I graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy in Boulder, Colorado, in 2010 and have been loving my career ever since.

I lived on the front range of Colorado for four years while attending massage school and college, but I couldn’t stay away from my home state for long. In 2012 I decided to move back to California and surround myself by the beauty of Santa Cruz. Since moving here, I’ve worked in several high-end spas, including The Ritz Carlton, but none have ever been as nice and as welcoming as the Well Within. I love looking out onto our tranquil Zen garden and hearing the trickling of water while I work. I have built a community of clients, colleagues, and friends at Well Within that I hope to nourish for years to come.

When I am not at work I likely have my nose in a textbook or my feet in the sand. I am currently studying Nutritional Science at San Jose State and will be a registered dietitian by 2020. The relationship between food and health is fascinating to me. My education allows me to have a more holistic perspective on the body and informs my approach to massage. I also enjoy walks on the beach, meditation, running on West Cliff drive, hiking in the redwoods, and cooking for family and friends.

I am so delighted to be a part of the Well Within family and to be contributing to this beautiful sanctuary for our community.

Chris Hutcherson

Chris studied at Mueller College of Holistic Health in San Diego, where he focused on Shiatsu, Tuina and Chinese Meridian Theory.  He incorporates this into Myofascial, Deep Tissue and Sports massage, helping to facilitate muscle relaxation, stress relief and calming of the mind.  He is also trained in Craniosacral Therapy.  Chris has been a Certified Massage Therapist since 2005.

Gianluca Ciulla

Gianluca has been doing massage and bodywork on and off since he graduated in 2006 from the Arcata School of Massage in northern California. At ASM, he learned many different bodywork modalities including Deep tissue, Swedish, Trigger point, Myofacial, Shiatsu, and Cranial sacral as well as Somatics and Trauma work. Aside from working on bodies, he also likes to fix and build things. The fascination of how things work, and problem solving how to fix them when they stop working, carries over into how he sees the movement and function of the human body.

Jason Mandell

Jason Mandell has been offering massage to the world since 1995.  Initially trained in Swedish and Polarity, Jason has gone on to study and incorporate into his own unique style other various modalities including Shiatsu, Thai massage and Phenomenal Touch. He views his mission in massage as a way to locate holding patterns held in the nexus of the physical, mental/emotional and spiritual body. Once found, an invitation is given to redirect the energy of these holding patterns, offering a release of tension and an opportunity to find more groundation in one’s body and one’s sense of self. All is connected. The less tension in the body, the less tension in the world.  The less tension in the world, the less tension in the body.

Katy Edwards

Katy can barely remember a time in her life where massage wasn’t a part of it; she just took to it at a young age — walking up and down her mother’s back and even giving chair massages to her fellow students throughout grade school.

Shortly after graduating high-school, Katy realized she could make a living doing what she loved, so she got certified in 2002. She started her career in the spa environment, and has since worked with chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors and has even taught massage herself at the National Holistic Institute.

Over the years, Katy has developed a relaxing, yet productive, massage style by combining a unique blend of Western and Eastern techniques — Swedish, Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, and Acupressure to give her clients a custom-blended massage that fits their needs. She looks forward to working with you!
