Prenatal / Pregnancy Massage

Performed by a trained perinatal specialist, many methods of massage and somatic therapies are both effective and safe prenatally and during labor and postpartum periods of women’s pregnancies. Prenatally, specific techniques can reduce pregnancy discomforts and concerns and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus. Skilled, appropriate touch facilitates labor, shortening labor times and easing pain and anxiety. In the postpartum period, specialized techniques rebalance structure, physiology, and emotions of the new mother and may help her to bond with and care for her infant. Specialized, advanced training in the anatomy, physiology, complications, precautions, and contraindications is highly recommended, and many practitioners require referrals from physicians prior to therapy.

Her massage is specifically chosen to fit the client’s needs. Pressure used follows the spectrum, from deeper techniques suchy as Myofacial release, Deep Tissue, and Neuromuscular, Shiatsu and Acupressure.

Felicity tailors each session to specifically meet your needs. Practicing for over 25 years and teaching for nearly half that time, Felicity brings warmth and care to each session. Modalities include Swedish, Deep Tissue, NMT, Shiatsu, Reiki/Energy work, Kripalu bodywork, Pre & Post Natal, Lymphatic drainage and specializing in chronic pain relief.

Gretchen Retka

Gretchen Retka is a Cypress Health Institute Certified CAMTC massage graduate and University of MN Music/Theatre graduate with a passion for healing and performing arts. Gretchen finds joy in the articulation and cultivation of refining the body as a tool to simultaneously evolve the mind, emotions and spirit for healing or personal expression! Massage techniques include Swedish, Thai, Myofascial, Prenatal, Postnatal, Abdominal massage and energy work in Reiki and Cranial sacral. 

With 13 years of yoga practice and teaching since 2008, Gretchen’s training (350 hours CYT) includes Living Yoga Program with an emphasis in yoga combining ideokinesis, Prenatal Yoga with Hannah Muse at the Mount Madonna Center, Baptiste Power Yoga, and Yoga Behind Bars. Gretchen has dived deeply into Iyengar, Kundalini, Ashtanga, and Tao Yoga, while traveling to India and Thailand for Thai Yoga Massage training and Eastern Secrets of Love (Tao & Tantra)

Prior to moving to Santa Cruz, with a love for travel, Gretchen has attended births in a variety of settings ,including home births with traditional midwives, hospitals alongside nursing staff, and birth centers internationally. Passionate to provide care which empowers each and every family leading to healthy birth outcomes, Gretchen is very grateful to be a part of the diverse Santa Cruz community, as a prenatal yoga teacher, massage therapist and doula. When she is not helping families through this life changing transition, she loves to play music, read, dance salsa, be in the ocean, hike, be with family, and travel.

Jennifer Heminger

With over 500 hours of training in Massage Therapy, Jennifer’s style vacillates between the subtlety of acupressure to the intensity of deep tissue. Her massage education is rooted in Asian systems, where she began her studies of hands-on-therapy in Shiatsu in 2005 with Gary Ruiz, in Sonoma. She continued her education at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, where she obtained a 200-hour program with a focus in Stress Management. Other certifications Jennifer has obtained include: Swedish Massage, Prenatal and Infant Massage both from McKinnon Institute, And The Art of Touch and The Deep Work with Ellen Watson, and Perry and Johanna Holloman, of Esalen. 

Jennifer feels her work is to hold space and be a conduit for the bodywork to flow. Attuned to listen to the subtle cues of the body, Jennifer is known for her intuitive and unique approach. With 13 years of experience, Jennifer appreciates slower-paced and breath-focused sessions that allow clients the space to unwind, and ultimately arrive home to themselves in each session. 

Julian Campbell

In 2014 Julian began his work as a massage therapist. He graduated from National Holistic Institute in San Jose and is a Bay Area native. When he’s not practicing he enjoys trail running and spending time at the beach. His technique is centered around balance; not too firm or too soft, too fast or slow. His favorite modality to practice is Deep Tissue but he also specializes in Swedish and Prenatal Massage. He’s passionate about wellness and strives to give the best massage each and every time. A massage with him will leave you feeling loose, relaxed and ready for more.

Laurel Wanner

I graduated in 1992 from Twin Lakes College in Santa Cruz, certified with a focus in Swedish and Polarity.  I have since studied table Shiatsu, deep Swedish and Prenatal which I incorporate into my work when appropriate. [Read more…]
